Standing In Line

Landlord banging on the door says give him money or git

Had to reapply for welfare just to pay the rent

Office opens 7:30 but just never you mind

6 AM and fifty people out there standing in line

God I’m starving and I haven’t got my Food Stamps yet

So I go down to the food bank just to see what I can get

Food bank opens at 11 but just never you mind

9 AM same fifty people out there standing in line

Went on down to San Francisco just to see what I can find

Fisherman’s Wharf on a busy June Saturday night

Saw a circular crowd it had to be half a mile

Tourists waiting for the cable car all standing in line

So you ask me what’s the moral to my dumb little rhyme

Oh yeah I think I was just talking about standing in line

You think the line to ride the choo-choo’s a drag hey you’re just fine

You don’t have to do it to eat so shut up and stand in line
